If you’ve spent this winter occasionally popping into your conservatory, then just as quickly leaving because it’s so cold in there, you may be forgiven for wondering why on earth you’ve got a conservatory in the first place.

Well, don’t despair, because while conservatories – particularly older ones – are prone to extremes of temperature, this isn’t a reason to abandon yours. One of the best ways of bringing back the warmth to your extension is to take a closer look at how well it is insulated. And there is no better place to start than with the roof.

As with your home, a lot of heat can be lost through the roof if it isn’t properly insulated. Conservatory roofs tend not to be boarded and lined with glass wool or synthetic insulating materials, so it is down to the materials used in the construction of the roof itself to do the work and retain the heat.

So let’s introduce our highly popular tiled conservatory roofs. Having one of these fitted is an excellent and cost-effective way of breathing new life – and a welcome blast of warm air – into your new or existing conservatory. Our roof systems are compatible with all styles of conservatory and they’re also highly customisable, giving you many options to suit your particular style. Read on to find out how replacing your conservatory roof can bring many benefits, helping you to reduce energy bills and enjoy your space all over again, whatever the weather.

Thermal excellence

We supply and fit Equinox tiled replacement roofs – arguably the best in the marketplace. The lightweight polymer tiles are made from 75 per cent recycled materials and the roof is constructed on a timber deck with aluminium rafters, making it exceptionally strong. Insulated plasterboard is fitted to the interior, which helps to achieve U-values (the standard measure of thermal efficiency) as low as 0.15 – roughly 10 times more efficient than an A-rated window.

Natural light options

You’d like a tiled roof – the solidity and better insulation benefits appeal to you – but you’d also be keen to have a measure of natural light. No problem. It’s perfectly possible to add attractive and well-proportioned rooflights to your tiled roof, delivering up to 850 mm of visible natural light. Even on the darkest of winter days, you’ll really notice the uplifting effect of lighting flooding your space.

Breathability

If your conservatory is too cold in the winter, it’s more than likely that it’s also too hot in the summer. A new roof installation by us will cure that by introducing proper airflow through the whole extension. We separate the aluminium rafters from the timber deck, allowing air to circulate more freely. This minimises the chances of condensation forming in winter, as well as making the building feel airy and comfortable during the summer months for conservatory owners.

A range of styles and tiles

In this day and age, we’re aware that the ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach is not one that suits most customers. We all like a bit of individuality, so our replacement roofs will suit any style of conservatory including Victorian, Edwardian, gable-ended, lean-to or P-shaped. Our roofs come in no less than 16 different colours to suit almost any type of existing property. As for tiles, our Envirotile range is available in four options based on traditional tile styles, plus our Slateskin tiles offer a slate-effect finish.
